Former Indian junior hockey player Rajeev Mishra, who was a leading striker at the 1997 Junior Hockey World Cup, has passed away at the age of 46. Mishra, who scored six goals in the tournament, led India to a second-place finish, narrowly losing the final to Australia. Although the team could not lift the trophy, Mishra was hailed as the future of Indian hockey. Mishra made his domestic debut for the senior team for Northern Railway in the Indo-German test series in January 1998. Dileep Tirkey, the current President of Hockey India, himself Mishra’s teammate in the 1997 Junior World Cup, tweeted his condolences, describing Mishra as a dedicated and passionate player.
