Danny Masterson, known for his role on That ’70s Show, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for rape, following his conviction on two counts of forcible rape. The sentencing came after a retrial in which Masterson, 47, was found guilty on two out of three counts. The third count, alleging rape of a longtime girlfriend, resulted in a hung jury.

The case has attracted attention not only for the criminal charges but also for the show of support from Masterson’s former co-stars, Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis. In letters written to the judge ahead of the sentencing, Kutcher and Kunis vouched for Masterson’s character and appealed for leniency.

Kutcher described Masterson as someone who sets an extraordinary standard for how people should be treated. He shared a specific incident in which Masterson defended a stranger being verbally abused at a pizza parlor. Additionally, Kutcher emphasized that Masterson has always treated people with decency, equality, and generosity.

Kunis echoed similar sentiments in her letter, calling Masterson an amazing friend and an outstanding older brother figure. She praised his sense of responsibility and care for others, stating that he has been a reliable source of guidance and comfort for everyone who knows him.

Other former co-stars, including Debra Jo Rupp and Kurtwood Smith from That ’70s Show, also wrote statements of support. In total, more than 50 people, including friends and colleagues, submitted letters to Judge Charlaine Olmeda.

In contrast to the letters of support, prosecutors painted Masterson as a serial rapist who had been protected by high-ranking officials in the Church of Scientology. The trial focused on allegations that Masterson drugged and raped three women, including his former girlfriend.

Ultimately, Judge Olmeda handed down a stiff sentence, stating that Masterson’s actions had taken away another person’s choice and voice. Despite the pleas for leniency and the expressed belief that Masterson is not an ongoing harm to society, the judge emphasized the criminality of the actions committed 20 years ago.

The case has drawn significant attention due to the involvement of prominent celebrities and the serious nature of the charges. Masterson’s sentencing serves as a reminder of the importance of holding individuals accountable for their actions, regardless of their status or reputation.
