India and the United States have a long-standing history of collaboration and working together in various fields. Speaking about the role of technology in addressing societal challenges, Garcetti mentioned how it can aid in achieving Prime Minister Modi’s goal of eliminating tuberculosis by 2025. He shared an example of how AI can be used to detect disease and support the Indian government’s efforts in combating tuberculosis.
Garcetti also mentioned a recent meeting between PM Modi, President Biden, and himself in the Oval Office, where they discussed the transformative potential of technology. President Biden expressed his belief that the next five years will witness more change than the previous 75 years, driven by technology. Prime Minister Modi highlighted the role of AI in the collaboration between America and India, which led to the creation of a T-shirt symbolizing the shared future of the two nations.
Highlighting the deep friendship and trust between India and the United States, Ambassador Garcetti stated that around 80 to 90 percent of the Indian and American populations have positive sentiments towards each other. He acknowledged the significant contributions made by Indian students studying in American institutions and highlighted the Endowment Fund’s support for 60 joint projects, some of which have already grown into commercial ventures.
Garcetti emphasized the limitless partnership between India and the United States, particularly in areas such as semiconductors, AI, space innovation, and defense sectors. He expressed his admiration for Prime Minister Modi’s characterization of the partnership as boundless.
The event also witnessed the presence of Dr. Jitendra Singh, the Union Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, who was congratulated by Ambassador Garcetti for launching the National Quantum Mission. Garcetti acknowledged the collaborative opportunities in quantum technology and the establishment of a joint US-India Quantum Coordination mechanism involving academia, industry, and government to facilitate necessary research.
