The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has launched a new initiative called Jnanasiri, aimed at empowering top-scoring girl students from Government Schools and Colleges. This initiative provides a financial assistance of Rs. 50,000 to 25 students in each of the SSLC and II PUC exams, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to 50. The scheme, announced as part of the MCC’s recent budget, seeks to encourage girls from poor families to pursue higher education and improve their prospects in life.

MCC Mayor, Shivakumar, explained that the beneficiaries would be selected based on their marks, with only girl students from Government educational institutions eligible for the benefit. The Mayor added that the poor students would be in greater numbers at Government institutions, so the initiative aims to encourage and support them. To accomplish this, the MCC earmarked a significant sum of Rs. 25 lakh for the effective implementation of the scheme.

While it was originally designed for ten girl students, the number of beneficiaries was later increased to 25 after discussions with the Chairman of Finance, Taxation, and Appeals Standing Committee and the Corporators. The Jnanasiri scheme’s administrators will create feedback forms and launch it this year as part of efforts to encourage girls’ education.

The initiative aims to motivate girls from poor families to achieve their academic goals by supporting them financially and providing encouragement from government institutions. The MCC hopes the Jnanasiri scheme will propel more girls to pursue higher education and enable them to excel in their respective fields.
