J&K Police Arrest 3 TRF Terror Associates Planning Attacks in Srinagar
Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], August 5 (ANI): The Jammu and Kashmir Police have successfully apprehended three terror associates associated with the banned terrorist organization, The Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). The arrests took place in the Natipora area of Srinagar. The police have stated that the trio was in the process of planning and executing terrorist activities in the city.
During the operation, the police seized a significant cache of weapons and ammunition that belonged to the arrested individuals. The recovered items include three hand grenades, 10 pistol rounds, 25 AK-47 rounds, and other incriminating materials.
The Srinagar Police, operating as a small team, conducted the arrests. The arrested terrorists have been identified as Imran Ahmad Najar, a resident of Bulbul Bagh, Baramulla; Waseem Ahmad Matta, a resident of Qamarwari, Srinagar; and Wakeel Ahmad Bhat from Pazalpora, Bijbehara.
The police set up a checkpoint at Hannibal Natipora based on a tip-off, leading to the successful apprehension of the trio. Notably, Wakeel Ahmad Bhat was previously an active terrorist affiliated with the proscribed terrorist organization, Islamic State Jammu and Kashmir (ISJK). However, he had been in jail for the past two years before being recently released on bail from Central Jail.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the arrested individuals had acquired explosives and ammunition from active terrorists associated with TRF, intending to utilize these resources for conducting terrorist activities within Srinagar city.
A case has been registered against the three terror associates under various sections of the Explosives Act, the Arms Act, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act at the Chanapora police station. Additional investigations into the matter are currently underway.
