Jealous Suitors Take KEERA Official to Court Over Sh21M Wedding Cash, Lawyer Claims

A Kenyan Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) official, Daniel Wambua, has found himself entangled in a court battle after jealous suitors contested his receipt of Sh21 million as wedding cash. Lawyer Danstan Omari, speaking on behalf of Wambua, revealed that the suitors were disgruntled because his client had been chosen by the woman as her preferred suitor.

According to Omari, the competition to win over the lady was fierce, but Wambua managed to succeed in convincing her and the dowry was subsequently settled. However, the jilted suitors were displeased with the woman’s decision and resorted to taking Wambua to court.

While addressing journalists, Omari emphasized that the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) should focus on tackling corruption-related issues rather than intervening in cases involving rejected suitors. He argued that the responsibility of dealing with matters of lost love interests should not be entrusted to the EACC.

Last week, the EACC obtained a court order freezing Wambua’s accounts, including one that allegedly held the Sh21 million intended for the dowry payment. In defense of his client, lawyer Omari clarified that the said account was specifically opened for the purpose of collecting dowry funds, with contributions made by Wambua’s family and friends.

Omari went on to explain that the account, named Daniel Wambua Dowry Payment, was intended to operate for four months, culminating in the dowry payment on August 4. Up to the present, individuals continue to make contributions to the account to support Wambua’s dowry payment.

This unique case highlights the lengths some individuals are willing to go to in order to secure a partner’s affection. The court will determine whether the suitors’ claims hold any merit or if their actions are simply driven by jealousy and bitterness.

As the legal process unfolds, it remains to be seen how the court will rule on this peculiar dispute. The case draws attention to the complexities of relationships, love, and the influence of money in matrimonial matters.
