Kicking Off 2024 with the Libraries Latest for January

BROKEN BOW – The Broken Bow Public Library is starting the new year with a bang as they announce an exciting lineup of events for the month of January. From book clubs to creative activities for all age groups, the library promises to provide something for everyone in the community.

For the teen populace, the library will be hosting a Teen Advisory Board meeting on January 3 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. This is a fantastic opportunity for young individuals to engage in discussions and have their voices heard.

One of the highlights of the month is the Jigsaw Puzzle competition, where teams are invited to complete puzzles in the library while their time is recorded by the library staff. The fastest teams will have the chance to win half the prize money from their team category and earn a spot in the Central Plains Library System Event. With a cost of $20 for a team of two people and $30 for a team of 3-4 people, participants will have the opportunity to choose from 550-piece or 1000-piece puzzles. This exciting competition will run throughout the entire month of January.

For the younger ones, Tots and Toys is held every Monday at 10:00 a.m., while Lapsit Story time takes place on Fridays at 10:00 a.m. for children aged zero to pre-k. These sessions provide a fantastic opportunity for children to engage in interactive storytelling and playful learning.

Book enthusiasts can join the Evening Book Club on January 16 at 6:30 p.m. The club will be reading Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus, offering a platform for literary discussions and intellectual exchange.

Science enthusiasts and homeschoolers aged five and up can participate in the Homeschoolers Explore STEAM event on January 18 from 2:00-3:00 p.m. To secure a spot, interested individuals are kindly encouraged to contact the library.

On the same day, families can come together for a delightful experience during the Family Fort Night from 5:45-6:45 p.m. Attendees are advised to bring flashlights and blankets to create forts, while the library will provide tables, chairs, books, s’mores, and campfire crafts. Registration is required, so make sure to reserve your spot on time.

Teenagers in grades 6th-12th can showcase their candy-eating skills at the Candy Olympics on January 19 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Let the sugar rush begin!

For those looking to exchange puzzles, the library has organized a puzzle exchange on January 23. Participants can bring their gently used puzzles by 5:30 p.m. on January 23 and pick out a new puzzle between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. on January 24.

Chili enthusiasts won’t want to miss the chili cook-off on January 26. With free entrance and a chance to donate on a voluntary basis, all proceeds will go to Healing Hearts and Families. Interested individuals who wish to compete are encouraged to RSVP by January 24.

Lastly, the Take a Break Book Club will meet on January 30 at noon to discuss Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman. Readers can dive into the engaging world of literature while connecting with fellow book lovers.
