The Editor-in-Chief of Ajit Group, Barjinder Singh Hamdard, has been summoned by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau for a probe into the alleged misuse of funds during the construction of the Jang-e-Azadi Memorial. The memorial, located in Kartarpur, dedicated to freedom fighters cost ₹315 crores. Hamdard has been directed to visit the Jalandhar range office with his replies to a 17-point questionnaire sent to him. Hamdard had earlier approached the Punjab and Haryana high court, requesting that the probe is handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation. However, the high court directed the VB to send a written questionnaire to Hamdard instead of summoning him. The VB has previously confiscated official records and questioned the memorial’s managing committee secretary. Opposition parties have reportedly protested the VB probe against Hamdard, while the ruling Aam Aadmi Party defended the probe.
