Jan Aadhaar 2.0 Brings Groundbreaking Changes to Rajasthan’s Welfare Schemes

Jaipur: The Rajasthan government’s Jan Aadhaar card, which serves as a platform for various social welfare schemes, is all set to undergo a major transformation. After four years of its initial launch, the Jan Aadhaar Authority is gearing up to introduce ‘Jan Aadhaar 2.0’, featuring new enhancements, an expanded database, and additional services.

According to officials, this upgraded version will not only widen the application’s reach but also ensure smoother operations. Sitaram Swaroop, Joint Director of the Jan Aadhaar Authority, shared insights into the upcoming changes, stating, We have been closely monitoring the system and addressing its challenges. We have made a few updates and introduced new features to tackle these issues. With Jan Aadhaar 2.0, we are planning a comprehensive revamp of the application’s features, database, and functionality.

Under Jan Aadhaar 2.0, the system will incorporate 19 new relations, including in-laws, nieces, nephews, as well as spouses and children from second marriages. This update allows the head of a family (HOF) to include the names of these new relations in the Jan Aadhaar card.

One of the key additions to the system is the ability for applicants to add the birth certificate of a newborn immediately after the baby’s arrival. Previously, it was not mandatory to provide details of family members below the age of five since their names were usually finalized at a later stage. However, the new system allows applicants to upload the birth certificate, and names can be updated later.

One of the most innovative features is the ‘Auto Approval and Auto Intimation’ function that enables beneficiaries to access direct-benefit transfer (DBT) schemes, such as pensions. Individuals with a Jan Aadhaar card will no longer need to apply for pension schemes once they reach the eligible age.

A month before an applicant becomes eligible for a pension, the system will automatically trigger a message to their registered cell phone. To verify their existence, applicants need to visit an e-Mitra kiosk and provide a fingerprint, enabling the system to automatically update their status without requiring a formal application.

Furthermore, the Jan Aadhaar is now paving the way for a ‘real-time census’ database, replacing the need for decadal censuses. By integrating with the Pehchan database, which records births and deaths within the state, Jan Aadhaar is on the verge of developing a dynamic population accounting system.

This integration will facilitate the prompt removal of deceased individuals from the system and the seamless addition of new family members, allowing for real-time population updates within the state. Sitaram Swaroop explained, Having a real-time estimate of the population at the click of a mouse will greatly aid in policymaking and enable near-accurate forecasts. Rajasthan is all set to become the pioneering state in achieving this feat.

The launch of Jan Aadhaar 2.0 holds tremendous promise for the residents of Rajasthan, as it aims to streamline welfare schemes and enhance citizen services. With the inclusion of new features, an expanded database, and the introduction of a ‘real-time census,’ the state is taking a significant step forward in harnessing technology for the welfare of its people.
