Traders and business persons in Jammu, the winter capital of Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, are shutting down several markets due to scorching heat wave conditions. Summer temperatures in June are proving too much for locals, prompting the Chamber of Commerce and Industries Jammu to agree to four days of market closure since June 14, with 10 prominent shopping areas, including Hari market, Raghunath bazaar and Shaheed Gunj, shutting down. Aside from Nehru market, which will remain open, traders are unwinding with their families and taking advantage of the summer holidays. This is a good step, said Krishen Lal Gupta, an executive member of CCIJ. The heat wave continues to make life unbearable for Jammu locals, with temperatures expected to linger above 35 degrees Celsius until the end of the month.
