The Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Department (PDD) has announced that there will be no power cuts in Jammu city, while rural and unmetered areas will experience outages of less than six hours. This decision was made as protests against frequent power cuts escalated, with temperatures in the region reaching up to 40 degrees Celsius. The JKPDD aims to provide some respite to consumers from the heat. Political parties, including Congress, PDP, Apni Party, National Conference, and National Panthers Party, have criticised the administration for its alleged failure to provide uninterrupted power supply. However, the JKPDD has attributed the improved power supply situation to recent developments in the power sector, such as an increase in power allocation from the Centre and improvements in thermal power generation. The department spokesperson has encouraged the public to use power judiciously and pay their electricity bills on time to ensure timely payments to power generating companies and smooth power supply during peak summer days.
