Jammu and Kashmir Government Approves Increase in Cadre Strength of Judges

Jammu, Jan 20: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has given its nod to raise the cadre strength of district judges in the region. The decision comes following the approval of a proposal that supports the recommendations put forth by the Second National Judicial Pay Commission (SNJPC).

In a meeting chaired by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, the Administrative Council (AC) approved the increase in the cadre strength of District Judges (Selection Grade) from 25 percent to 35 percent, and District Judges (Super Time Scale) from 10 percent to 15 percent. The changes will be implemented retrospectively from January 1, 2020.

Advisor to the Lieutenant Governor, Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, and Chief Secretary to LG, Atal Dulloo, also attended the meeting, during which the proposal from the law department was approved. This move aims to implement the SNJPC recommendations, which have previously been accepted by the Supreme Court in the case titled All India Judges Association Vs Union Of India and Ors.

The Ministry of Law and Justice has conveyed the approval of the competent authority regarding the implementation of the recommendations of the Second National Judicial Pay Commission.

The increase in cadre strength for district judges in Jammu and Kashmir is seen as a positive step towards enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the judicial system. This will enable a greater number of judges to handle the increasing caseload, ensuring timely and fair justice for the people.

The decision will have a significant impact on the overall functioning of the judiciary in the region, as it will allow for the appointment of additional judges to handle the mounting number of cases. This move is expected to expedite the disposal of pending cases and reduce the burden on the existing judges.

The approval from the Jammu and Kashmir Government, in line with the recommendations of the SNJPC, is a welcome development for the justice system in the region. The decision reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening the judiciary and ensuring that the delivery of justice is both efficient and fair.

With the increase in cadre strength, the district judiciary in Jammu and Kashmir is well-positioned to handle the growing demands of the legal system. This will contribute to a more streamlined and effective judiciary, ultimately benefiting the residents of the region.

The decision to raise the cadre strength of judges in Jammu and Kashmir has been met with positive responses from various legal experts. They believe that this move will help address the issue of pending cases and ensure better access to justice.

As the government takes this significant step towards improving the judiciary, it holds the potential to bring about positive changes in the legal system of Jammu and Kashmir. The increased cadre strength will create new opportunities for capable and deserving individuals to serve as judges and contribute towards a fair and efficient justice system.

The decision to increase the cadre strength of district judges in Jammu and Kashmir is a commendable move by the government. It demonstrates their commitment to judicial reform and underscores the importance of a strong and independent judiciary for the overall development of the region.
