Jammu and Kashmir Becomes First UT to Implement PM Vishwakarma Yojana As Training Starts for First Batch
Jammu and Kashmir has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first Union Territory in the country to implement the prestigious PM Vishwakarma Yojana. The initiative aims to empower and enhance the skills of the craftsmen community across the nation. In line with this, the training program for the first batch of 30 trainees has commenced virtually.
The inaugural ceremony for the training program in ‘darzi craft’ was conducted at ITI Shopian, with the presence of Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, and Secretary of the Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Atul Kumar Tiwari.
Expressing his pride, Bhatnagar highlighted the commitment of the administration in promoting a culture of skill development and creating employment opportunities for the youth. He further mentioned that the scheme is expected to be implemented in all the districts of Jammu and Kashmir soon.
The Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana was introduced by the Central government in September 2023 to recognize and support artisans and craftspeople through PM Vishwakarma certificates and ID cards. As part of the scheme, the trainees receive basic training of five to seven days, advanced training of 15 or more days, a stipend of Rs 500 per day, and a free modern toolkit worth Rs 15,000 upon completion of training.
