Jamie Lee Curtis Expresses Desire to Join Season 2 of One Piece as Showrunners Show Interest

In a recent Instagram post, Hollywood star Jamie Lee Curtis revealed her eagerness to play the role of Dr. Kureha in the second season of Netflix’s highly anticipated live-action adaptation of the popular manga and anime series, One Piece. And it seems like the showrunners are equally enthusiastic about having her on board.

Curtis, known for her versatile acting skills, took to social media to share her intention of pursuing the role once the ongoing strikes by SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) and WGA (Writers Guild of America) have concluded. She captioned an illustration of the 141-year-old character, Dr. Kureha, on Instagram, saying, ONCE the STRIKE against the greed of the AMTPT is SETTLED with a FAIR CONTRACT, I will lobby along with the growing fan frenzy to become Doctor Kureha in @onepiecenetflix.

The showrunner, Matt Owens, responded to Curtis’s post, hinting at their interest in collaborating with her. Owens playfully commented, Mommy dearest, that’s why we sent you that figure! No need to lobby. He further added, Once we get what we deserve and get back to work, let’s talk!

Curtis’s announcement thrilled fans and showcased her passion for the One Piece franchise. Her daughter, Ruby, previously shared that Curtis loves the character of Dr. Kureha and would be more than willing to portray her on screen. Curtis herself attended the premiere of One Piece Film: Gold with her daughter, demonstrating her connection to the series.

Dr. Kureha is a captivating character within the One Piece universe. Often considered a witch due to her unconventional and aggressive methods of examining and treating patients, she became a mentor to Tony Tony Chopper after the loss of his father figure. Besides her exceptional medical expertise, Kureha possesses superhuman strength and speed, enabling her to effortlessly demolish barriers and launch powerful attacks.

Unfortunately, the production of Season 2 of One Piece has been halted by the ongoing strikes in Hollywood. Becky Clements, one of the show’s producers, revealed that it could be a year or 18 months before the show is ready to air, assuming swift progress once the strikes end.

Fans eagerly await the return of One Piece and the introduction of Jamie Lee Curtis as Dr. Kureha in Season 2. With both Curtis’s enthusiasm and the showrunners’ interest, it appears that her dream role may become a reality.
