Jamf, a leading provider of Apple device management solutions, has announced support for Platform Single Sign-On (SSO) with Okta, making it the first-to-market integration of Apple’s new identity technology. The partnership between Jamf and Okta will deliver seamless and secure Mac identity integration, creating a more convenient and protected user experience for organizations.

One of the key benefits of this integration is seamless onboarding for remote users. Okta customers can enable Platform SSO by purchasing Okta Device Access, which includes the new Desktop Password Sync capability. During the deployment process on a new Mac, Okta Verify is automatically installed in the background, allowing users to authenticate with their Okta credentials. This authentication process can be enhanced with multi-factor authentication (MFA), such as biometrics, to prevent unauthorized access. Jamf Pro’s integration with Enrollment Customization simplifies the onboarding process by pre-filling account details and syncing with the Okta password, enhancing data security and reducing password resets.

Furthermore, Platform SSO enables end users to access all Okta-protected applications on a device with Okta FastPass. This feature offers passwordless authentication and phishing-resistant measures, providing a better and more secure day-to-day authentication experience. Users can also configure the MFA process with FastPass to require biometrics such as Touch ID or Face ID, in addition to other authentication methods like SMS and authenticator app notifications.

Jamf’s close collaboration with Apple is well-known, and the company has been at the forefront of supporting Apple-native technologies. Jamf was an early adopter of Platform SSO profiles, making it compatible with any identity provider offering Platform SSO support. Okta, as the first identity provider to support Platform SSO, can now provide a single sign-on extension host app, enabling Jamf to offer customers the full benefits of this groundbreaking technology.

Matt Vlasach, VP of Product Management at Jamf, expressed his excitement about the collaboration, stating, Jamf has solved the challenge of bringing cloud identity workflows to macOS with Jamf Connect, and we knew it was important to support Apple’s new Platform SSO. We needed a nimble identity provider partner, and Okta was the obvious choice.

Both companies recently announced support for Enrollment Single Sign-on, simplifying the onboarding process for mobile users on personally-owned devices. With this latest integration of Platform SSO and Enrollment SSO, Jamf and Okta are committed to delivering a native and secure Apple access and identity experience on Mac, iPhone, and iPad devices.

The partnership between Jamf and Okta highlights the growing importance of secure identity integration in the evolving landscape of remote work and cloud-based applications. By combining their expertise, these leading companies are empowering organizations to leverage Apple’s advanced technology and provide a seamless and secure user experience across their device ecosystems.
