Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has called on the education sector and teaching community to adopt a learning approach that extends beyond traditional classroom settings and equips students with skills for the future. Speaking at the convocation of the Islamic University of Science and Technology in Pulwama district, Sinha said educational institutions should focus on developing values such as creativity, compassion, individuality, and righteousness to empower students to create a better future. K Kasturirangan, chair of the National Education Policy 2020’s drafting committee, was also present at the event.
It is known that traditional classroom settings have been the norm for centuries, but the world is fast changing, and there is a need for students to acquire 21st-century skills to thrive in the future. Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha emphasized that standard curricula are no longer sufficient to prepare students for an uncertain future. Students must be taught to think creatively, critically, and compassionately and make use of the latest technology to achieve their goals and overcome challenges.
Education must change to be more modern and practical; this is at the heart of the recently-launched National Education Policy, a comprehensive framework that emphasizes the importance of practical learning and customization. Educational institutions and teachers have a mandate to develop graduates that are proficient in many fields and are high-quality contributors to their communities and society. The policy calls for expanding access to teaching materials and resources so that every student, regardless of location or background, can gain access to digital tools and educational materials.
To achieve these goals, India’s government is committed to enhancing the educational experience through technology, supporting teachers and educators with training and development opportunities, and increasing access to digital platforms nationwide. For India’s education sector to achieve these goals, it must operate concretely in the 21st century.
In conclusion, the success of teaching strategies rests in their ability to deliver practical solutions that can thrive in the face of uncertainty. Against this backdrop, the Government’s National Education Policy recognizes the need to promote practical, customizable, and modern learning methods to equip students for the future. Ultimately, teachers and institutions will play a pivotal role in translating these strategies into widespread results that will empower learners to thrive in the world and contribute positive change to society.
