The Income Tax Department in India continues to conduct searches and raids for the second consecutive day on people associated with Tamil Nadu Minister Senthil Balaji, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on 14 June in connection with a jobs for cash scam. The searches are taking place at Karur and Coimbatore areas, with security provided by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). In a previous raid before Balaji’s arrest, his DMK cadres and associates had allegedly assaulted IT Department officials, injuring a few officials critically and a woman official. The IT Department is conducting current raids at the places of Shakthi Mess owners, Karthik and Ramesh, deemed close to Balaji and his brother Ashok Kumar, continuing the pursuit to unearth maximum proof to connect the money trail of the Minister and his family. The IT Department and Directorate of Enforcement are working together to find evidence in the scam.
