The Income Tax (IT) department in Kerala, India, conducted raids on 13 prominent YouTubers and content creators, including actress Pearle Maaney. The raids were conducted in various districts, targeting YouTubers who reportedly earn over an estimated Rs 1 crore ($135,000) annually but whose tax filings do not accurately reflect their income. IT officials suspect that paid promotional content these individuals have carried may also be problematic. Some of the YouTubers have also made undisclosed investments, which were not included in their tax declarations. Additionally, the creators claim to have no fixed payment, with their monthly earnings from YouTube and other social media platforms dependent on the viewership of their content, causing confusion in terms of tax payments. The raids commenced at 9am and bank statements and other transaction details related to the YouTubers’ revenue are being examined. The IT department has reportedly scheduled more raids on YouTubers in the coming days.
