People’s Alliance AK Party Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor candidate Murat Kurum revealed the ambitious plans for Istanbul’s future at the Turkey Century Istanbul Vision Meeting. Kurum emphasized that they would determine the next 100 years of Istanbul and discuss the significant milestones of 2034 and 2053.

In an effort to alleviate Istanbul’s notorious traffic congestion, Kurum announced plans to relocate the Esenler and Harem bus terminals, which have negatively impacted urban traffic. Additionally, he revealed their intention to establish six new logistics centers on both sides of the city, which would redirect approximately one million heavy vehicles away from urban traffic and reduce travel time by 20%.
Recognizing Istanbul’s unique geography, with a sea passing through its core, Kurum criticized the lack of emphasis on sea transportation by the current administration. He pledged to implement effective models for sea transportation, establishing mini piers on both sides of Istanbul and increasing fast and frequent flights during peak commuting hours. By strengthening maritime transportation, Kurum aims to add two new lines and provide alternative transportation options to alleviate the strain on highways.
As earthquake preparedness and urban transformation are pressing issues for Istanbulites, Kurum pledged to urgently transform 600 thousand residences. Kurum announced the implementation of a central Disaster Risk Management System in Istanbul, aiming to serve two million people through various meeting areas across the city.
