The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is set to conduct the first abort mission for India’s maiden human spaceflight project, Gaganyaan, at the end of August 2021. The ISRO chairman, S Somanath, confirmed that the test vehicle is ready at Sriharikota and the crew module’s assembly work has started. Furthermore, the unmanned mission to orbit will take place in 2022. The ISRO is keen to ensure the safety of crew members, making it a crucial aspect of the Gaganyaan project. The crew escape system will protect astronauts if a contingency is developed in the rocket, and the integrated vehicle health management system will help monitor their health during their trip.
