Israeli Minister Faces Suspension After Controversial Remarks on Gaza
Israel’s Heritage Minister, Amichai Eliyahu, is facing suspension after he made inflammatory comments regarding the Gaza Strip during an interview with the Times of Israel. In the interview, Eliyahu stated that the Palestinian people should go to Ireland or deserts while the monsters in Gaza should find their own solution. He also suggested that dropping a nuclear bomb on Gaza was a possibility and advocated for restricting humanitarian aid to the area, comparing it to aiding the Nazis.
The Prime Minister of Israel, Binyamin Netanyahu, quickly distanced himself from Eliyahu’s remarks, stating that they were divorced from reality. As a result, Eliyahu has been suspended from cabinet meetings until further notice. However, it is important to note that Eliyahu was not a member of the decision-making war cabinet formed following the recent surprise attack by Hamas.
Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant criticized Eliyahu, asserting that individuals like him should not be in charge of Israel’s security. According to the Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza, the recent Israeli airstrikes on the Maghazi refugee camp have resulted in a death toll of 33 or more, with 42 wounded. Israel claims to have struck over 2,500 terror targets in its ongoing conflict with Hamas.
