Prototype of iPhone 16 Pro Features New Action and Capture Buttons, Testing Continues

The upcoming iPhone 16 Pro models are set to include innovative button designs, as revealed by a prototype under Apple’s Project Bongo initiative. Compared to its predecessor, the iPhone 14, the iPhone 15 lineup already showcased notable variations. However, with the iPhone 16 Pro, Apple is pushing the boundaries even further.

The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max introduced a new customizable Action Button, but Apple plans to take it a step further with the iPhone 16 Pro models. MacRumors reports that Apple has built a prototype featuring a revised Action Button, along with exploring the possibility of unified Volume Buttons.

Currently, there are no confirmed details regarding Apple’s implementation, as the project is still in its testing phase. Apple has evaluated four prototypes with different button layouts and designs, aiming to find the most optimal solution. One of the options being considered involves keeping the current button layout while adding a flush Capture button seamlessly integrated into the frame of the iPhone 16 Pro.

The development of these buttons is part of Apple’s broader Project Bongo, which also involves testing haptic buttons for the iPhone. The previous iPhone 15 Pro models were expected to feature haptic buttons, but the idea was abandoned due to quality concerns. However, with the iPhone 16 Pro, Apple is revisiting the concept.

In addition to the extended Volume Button seen in previous rumors, the iPhone 16 Pro is rumored to incorporate haptic buttons. Another version of the prototype includes a larger Action Button, although it was deemed too close to the Volume Buttons. Apple’s latest design, known as Proto2, positions the Action Button at the same size as the one featured in the iPhone 15 Pro.

While the exact design and functionality of the buttons are still being refined, Apple has ample time for testing and adjustments before the iPhone 16 Pro is released in several months. As the device enters the mass production stage, more information regarding its buttons and overall design is expected to emerge.

In conclusion, Apple is taking button design to a new level with the iPhone 16 Pro, featuring innovative Action and Capture buttons. The company’s Project Bongo is driving the exploration of haptic buttons and unique layouts. As testing continues, Apple aims to create the perfect button configuration for its flagship device. Stay tuned for further updates as the iPhone 16 Pro’s release date approaches.
