The International Olympics Committee (IOC) has spoken out against the mistreatment of Indian wrestlers who were protesting, calling for an unbiased criminal investigation to be conducted into allegations against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, BJP MP and Wrestling Federation of India chief. The wrestlers had planned to throw their medals into the Ganga River to protest against the government’s attitude towards their complaints but deferred the act after farmer leader Naresh Tikait intervened. The police have filed FIRs against the wrestlers and have said they will not be allowed to return to Jantar Mantar, their protest site. Singh, who was accused of sexual harassment, attended the inauguration of the new parliament building presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
