A four-day international conference on semiconductors and Very Large-Scale Integration (VLSI) design industry is scheduled to be held in Kolkata from January 6. The conference aims to benefit the state’s growing semiconductor industry and contribute to India’s goal of becoming a global hub for Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM). The 37th International Conference of VLSI Design and the 23rd International Conference on Embedded Systems will take place with the support of the West Bengal government.
The global semiconductor industry has witnessed significant growth, reaching a market value of USD 573.5 billion in 2022. While India plays a relatively small role in the market, the government is committed to expanding the industry. Recently, a Rs 76,000-crore scheme to enhance semiconductor and display manufacturing in the country was approved.
Hafizur Rahaman, general chair of VLSID 2024 and professor at IIEST Shibpur, expressed confidence in developing West Bengal as a ‘Semiconductor Product State’. He highlighted the presence of a large talent pool of skilled professionals from technical training institutes in the state, who can contribute to the growth of the industry.
The conference is expected to bring together more than 1,000 representatives from the industry, start-ups, government, and academia. It aims to promote knowledge sharing, technological advancements, and networking opportunities among industry professionals.
The event holds significance as it marks the return of the conference to Kolkata after an eight-year hiatus. The conference organizers believe that hosting the event in the city will not only showcase the potential of the semiconductor industry in West Bengal but also boost its overall development.
The conference will feature presentations, panel discussions, and workshops covering various aspects of VLSI design and embedded systems. Experts from around the world will share their insights on the latest trends, challenges, and innovations in the industry.
With the rapid advancement of technology and increasing demand for semiconductors, this conference is a crucial platform for professionals to stay updated with industry developments, forge collaborations, and explore business opportunities.
Overall, the four-day conference on semiconductors in Kolkata is set to be a significant event for the semiconductor industry in India. It will serve as a catalyst for the growth of the sector in West Bengal and contribute to the country’s aspirations of becoming a global leader in Electronics System Design and Manufacturing.
