The Eastern Naval Command’s flagship INS Dega in Visakhapatnam announced the inauguration of its latest Naval Airfield Integrated Security System (NAISS) and the Naval Anti-Drone System (NADS) last Monday. The development of these cutting-edge security systems, which were designed and produced in India, is in support of the Indian Navy’s commitment to the Make-in-India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives.

The NAISS and NADS systems, both developed by Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), provide advanced features such as artificial intelligence (AI) and multiple layers of area security. The NAISS is equipped with AI-enabled technology that enhances its ability to recognize multiple targets simultaneously while providing optimal airfield security. On the other hand, the NADS is an anti-drone system that allows tracking, detecting and destroying hostile drones within the locality of the airfield.

Vice Admiral Biswajit Dasgupta, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command, formally inaugurated the NAISS and NADS systems at INS Dega. The Indian Navy’s proactive approach to developing innovative solutions to further the security of the nation continues to be a focus of the initiative.

These newly improved security systems are an upgrade from the current systems utilized to secure the airfield at INS Dega. They not only provide higher levels of security but are also expected to save the Indian Navy money as they were developed locally.

The development of the NAISS and NADS reinforces the Indian Navy’s dedication to keeping India and its people safe. The highly technical & technologically advanced systems are aimed at providing better & more comprehensive security at Indian Naval airfields. Moreover, the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan’ initiatives aim to reduce reliance on imported technology and promote local development capabilities.

The deployment of these new security systems by the Indian Navy indicates that they are not only committed to keeping their defence systems technologically advanced, but are also focused on national development. These new systems help to solidify the country’s security infrastructure and make it better prepared to defend against any potential threats.
