Indore: MPBSE Students to Receive Similar Benefits as CBSE Students
In a recent development, students from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) have been granted an advantage in admissions to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) in 2023, as the cut-off in the general category is 16 marks lower than the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE). This advantage also extends to students who attempted the Class 12 board examination at the Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE). The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) has implemented this rule, ensuring that MPBSE students receive the same benefits as CBSE students.
According to the rule, In case a Board does not provide information about the cut-off for the top 20 percentile, the candidate will have to produce a certificate from the respective Board stating that he/she falls within the top 20 percentile of successful candidates. However, MPBSE has not provided any specific list, which implies that the cut-off marks for MPBSE students would be the same as those for CBSE students. The Category-Wise Top 20-percentile cut-off marks (Out Of 500) released by JoSAA reveal that the cut-off for CISCE is higher compared to CBSE students.
It is important to note that this cut-off is only valid for the 2022 Class 12 examination and is specifically released for admission to IITs. However, CBSE students might also benefit in other categories with this cut-off.
The JoSAA counseling for 2023 will be conducted for 118 institutes, including 23 IITs, 31 NITs, Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST) Shibpur, 26 IIITs, and 38 other technical institutes funded by the central or state governments.
For admission to the 31 NITs, 23 IIITs, and 23 GFTIs, the top 20 percentile of Class 12th boards will be considered, even if students do not score the prescribed minimum of 75% marks (65% in the case of SC, ST, and PwD) in Class 12th or equivalent. Candidates seeking admission to these institutions may fulfill any of the two conditions: either score a minimum of 75% marks or be ranked in the top 20 percentile in their respective boards.
This news brings relief to MPBSE students as they will now have equal opportunities to secure admission to prestigious institutions like the IITs. However, it is essential to maintain a balanced approach and consider different perspectives and opinions on the matter. The decision undoubtedly benefits CBSE students, but it is crucial to address concerns raised by students from other boards and ensure fairness throughout the admission process.
Overall, this move by JoSAA ensures that students from MPBSE and CBSE boards have a level playing field when it comes to admissions to IITs. It signifies a step towards inclusivity and equal opportunities for students across different educational boards.
