The farmers of Indore, Madhya Pradesh, were able to take a sigh of relief on Tuesday as they received a significant sum of money under various farmer-friendly schemes introduced by their state government. As many as 9,049 farmers received more than Rs23.22 crore as farm loan interest waiver, while an additional Rs120.70 crore payment was made under the Crop Insurance Scheme.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan personally deposited the funds for both schemes in the farmers’ bank accounts via a programme held in Rajgarh. The programme was attended by Rajnath Singh, the Defence Minister, among others. While the main programme was held in Depalpur, with MP Shankar Lalwani as the chief guest, similar programmes were also held across all the service cooperative societies of the district.

MP Lalwani acknowledged the various schemes introduced by the Chief Minister for the benefit of farmers, which would aid in their self-sufficiency and also increase their income. He emphasized that the schemes, coupled with efforts to provide employment opportunities for the youth, would make a positive impact. Lalwani further encouraged the youth to take advantage of the Mukhyamantri Seekho-Kamao Yojana. During the programme, he awarded certificates of benefits to the farmers.

The farmers’ relief programmes have brought significant relief to the farmers as they struggle with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Crop Insurance Scheme was particularly crucial, catering to the losses suffered by them due to harsh weather conditions and natural calamities. The government’s farm loan waiver programme was another step towards alleviating the agricultural producers’ financial woes prevalent in the country.

The Indore farmers’ relief programmes were organized under the guidance of the Chief Minister and are in line with various welfare policies aimed at uplifting marginalized sections of society. The efforts are expected to bring relief to the state’s farmers and address their concerns and financial hardships.
