Indonesia’s Vice President Calls for Immediate End to Israeli-Palestinian War, Advocates for Peace Talks
Indonesia’s Vice President, Ma’ruf Amin, has urged for an immediate end to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine, calling for the resumption of peace talks to resolve the long-standing dispute. Speaking during his visit to the Papua governor’s office, Amin emphasized the importance of implementing a two-state solution mechanism.
Amin also highlighted the Indonesian government’s efforts to evacuate 230 Indonesian citizens who were on religious tours in Israel when the conflict escalated due to a surprise attack by Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip. The Indonesian Foreign Ministry has been diligently preparing measures to ensure the safe return of these citizens from the war-affected region.
The recent armed conflict was sparked by Hamas launching a surprise attack on Israel, resulting in retaliatory actions from the Israeli government. Prior to this assault, Israel had already imposed closures on Gaza crossings, further exacerbating the living conditions of Palestinians in the area.
In response to the escalating violence, Indonesia’s Foreign Minister, Retno Marsudi, has been actively communicating with various countries and international organizations to urge for an immediate halt to the hostilities to prevent further civilian casualties. Minister Marsudi recently discussed the Palestinian issue with her Brazilian counterpart, Mauro Vieira, as Brazil currently holds the presidency of the United Nations Security Council.
It is worth noting that while Hamas claims its assault on Israel was in response to the desecration of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and increased settler violence, Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has declared war on Hamas and vowed to destroy their hideouts.
In light of these developments, Indonesia is pushing for efforts to deescalate the violence and promote a peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The nation’s Vice President, Ma’ruf Amin, emphasizes the need for immediate cessation of hostilities and a return to peace talks based on the two-state solution.
With ongoing diplomatic efforts and active engagement from various parties, hopes remain high for a peaceful resolution that can bring an end to the decades-long conflict between Israel and Palestine.
