Indonesian Health Minister Seeks to Replicate India’s Healthcare Model

Indonesia’s Health Minister, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, has expressed a desire to replicate India’s healthcare model in his own country. During a visit to a Jan Anushadhi Kendra in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar, Sadikin praised the Indian healthcare system and sought permission from his Indian counterpart, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, to implement a similar initiative in Indonesia.

Sadikin stated that his goal in Indonesia is to provide the people with the best quality and affordable medicines. After exploring various countries, he concluded that India has the highest quality medicines and brought businessmen and government officials to discuss replicating India’s model in Indonesia.

During the visit, Mandaviya explained the Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana model to Sadikin, who showed great interest in the scheme. The Indonesian Health Minister was part of a delegation led by Mandaviya, which included G20 delegates and ministers. The delegation visited the Jan Aushadhi Kendra to learn about India’s success in providing accessible, affordable, and high-quality medicines to its citizens.

Sadikin stated that he wants to provide the best medicines to the people of Indonesia. Having studied models from various countries, he believes that India’s Jan Aushadhi Kendra model is the best in the world in terms of ensuring quality, accessibility, and affordability of medicines.

Earlier, Mandaviya emphasized healthcare as a mission during his keynote address to Indian industry leaders in pharmaceuticals and G20 ministers and delegates. He acknowledged India’s role as a global pharmaceutical hub, providing affordable and high-quality drugs, and contributing to global accessibility by supplying approximately 60% of global vaccines and 20-22% of generic medicine exports.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has plans to increase the number of Jan Aushadhi Kendras from 10,000 to 25,000. Speaking on India’s Independence Day, Modi highlighted the significant benefits of these centers, which provide medicines at significantly reduced costs compared to market prices.

With Sadikin’s interest in India’s healthcare model, there is the potential for knowledge-sharing and collaboration between the two countries. India’s success in providing affordable and quality healthcare to its citizens can serve as an inspiration for other nations seeking to enhance their healthcare systems.

In conclusion, the Indonesian Health Minister’s visit to an Indian healthcare facility underscores his commitment to improve healthcare in his own country. By seeking to replicate India’s successful model, Sadikin hopes to provide the people of Indonesia with the best quality and affordable medicines. The exchange between the health ministers of India and Indonesia lays the foundation for potential collaboration and knowledge-sharing in the future, benefitting both nations and their citizens.
