Indian airline, IndiGo, has signed a purchase agreement for 500 Airbus A320 family aircraft. The new planes are expected to be delivered between 2030 and 2035, with engine selection and specific models still to be finalised.
This is a significant investment for IndiGo, which currently operates over 300 aircraft and already has orders for a further 480 to be delivered by the end of the decade. With this new purchase, IndiGo’s order book now stands at almost 1,000 aircraft, securing deliveries well into the next decade.
The fuel-efficient A320NEO family aircraft align with the airline’s aim of reducing operating costs and enhancing fuel efficiency, with the added bonus of maintaining exceptional reliability standards.
Pieter Elbers, CEO of IndiGo, said, This order strongly reaffirms IndiGo’s belief in the growth of India, in the A320 Family and in our strategic partnership with Airbus.
With an already impressive 21% reduction in CO2 emissions between fiscal years 2016 and 2023, IndiGo hopes to continue building on its sustainability goals while carrying over 100 million passengers this year.
