India’s Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh, has announced that BrahMos missiles, drones, and electronic warfare systems will be produced and assembled in the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor. The project aims to reduce Indian aerospace and defence sectors’ dependence on foreign suppliers and enhance local manufacturing. Singh stated that more than 95% of the planned land for the corridor, which totals 1,700 hectares, has already been acquired and that 36 industries and institutions have been given nearly 600 hectares of land. Additionally, the UPDIC identified six nodes in Agra, Aligarh, Chitrakut, Jhansi, Kanpur, and Lucknow to develop the project. The venture has received over 109 Memorandums of Understanding, with a total investment value of more than INR 16,000 crore.
