India’s cricket squad for the upcoming West Indies series is yet to announce their T20 squad, and fans are eagerly waiting for the announcement. However, one name that has garnered attention in recent times is Shivam Dube. Dube, who made his international debut for India in 2019, hasn’t been able to cement his spot in the T20 squad. But, with his performance in the recent IPL, there are three reasons why the board should consider him for the upcoming series.
Firstly, Dube was one of the standout batters of the IPL 2023, scoring 418 runs at a strike rate of 158.33, including three half-centuries. He played a pivotal role in helping the Chennai Super Kings clinch their fifth IPL title. He was the third-highest run scorer for his team and hit the second-most sixes (35) in the tournament.
Secondly, Dube’s inconsistency plagued his early career, causing him to lose his place in the squad. However, he turned over a new leaf in the 2023 IPL season, and the clarity of his role helped him play better, increasing his confidence. He has matured over the years and deserves to be given a shot in the Indian squad.
Lastly, Dube’s experience and skill set could be well-suited for India. As the Men in Blue lack a left-hander in the top and middle order, Dube could solve this problem, along with his skill in the middle overs as a spin hitter.
India needs to complete a transition in their squad soon after a disappointing T20 World Cup last year.
