India has become the world’s third-largest start-up ecosystem, with over 100 unicorns and job creation, thanks to the Modi-led Central government’s initiatives in innovation and entrepreneurship, according to Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He highlighted the government’s Skill India and Start-up India programs, which have made innovation and entrepreneurship intrinsic to India’s ethos, as contributing factors. Shah also noted that the country’s youth has achieved numerous milestones in different fields, and cited the government’s efforts in developing new institutions, promoting sports, and creating skill-building programs as key in empowering them. The minister said the Modi government has helped create over 6.76 crore jobs in the Micro Small and Medium Enterprises sector between 2017 and 2023, with other job-generating programs benefitting millions more. In addition, over 5.93 crore people have undergone digital literacy training under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyaan program till March 2023, and millions have been trained under the Skill India initiative.
