India’s delayed monsoon is set to pick up momentum within the next three to four days, according to meteorologists. Key agricultural regions in the southern, central and western states are expected to be covered, benefitting rice, cotton, soybean, and sugar cane crops. The monsoon provides around 70% of India’s necessary rainfall, vital for irrigating farmland and replenishing water reserves. Last month, the country saw rainfall levels drop to 33% lower than average, with some Indian states experiencing deficits of up to 95%. Although the India Meteorological Department has forecast below-average rainfall for June, the monsoon is expected to strengthen from July to September.
