External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has presented an ambitious seven-year action plan for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the G20 Development Ministers’ Meeting, according to reports. Jaishankar stated that the seven-year action plan could accelerate progress on the SDGs, with a coordinated, integrated and inclusive roadmap being presented for G20 actions. He mentioned that if progress towards the SDGs was already falling short before COVID-19, this has only been further exacerbated by it. He added that the Development Ministerial was an opportunity for G20 to demonstrate solidarity on developmental issues. Jaishankar stated that India’s action plan for accelerating progress on SDGs puts forward transformative actions on the three core agendas. He stressed the need for multilateralism in building a collective future, as well as addressing the climate crisis and threats to food and energy security.
