Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has reviewed the preparedness of the Armed Forces to tackle the approaching cyclone ‘Biparjoy’ in Gujarat’s coastal areas. The Minister spoke to all three Service Chiefs and tweeted that the Armed Forces are ready to provide every possible assistance to civil authorities in case of any contingency due to the cyclone. According to reports, around 4,500 people have been shifted to shelter homes as a precautionary measure and the India Meteorological Department has issued a Red alert for the Saurashtra and Kutch coasts in Gujarat. The cyclone is expected to make landfall near the Jakhau coast on June 15 and traverse all along the Rann up to Rajasthan. Border Security Force (BSF) has also prepared itself to deal with the effects of the cyclonic storm ‘Biparjoy’ which is predicted to pass through the Indo-Pak international border. Gujarat, Inspector General, BSF Ravi Gandhi visited the coastal areas of Bhuj to oversee the measures being taken to mitigate the effects of the cyclone and took stock of readiness to deal with any contingency.
