The Ministry of Coal in India has stated that there is an adequate availability of coal for thermal power plants across the country. According to an official release by the ministry, as of July 16, coal stocks with thermal power plants stood at 33.46 million tonnes (MT), which is 28 percent higher compared to the same period last year. The availability of coal at all locations, including pithead coal stock at the mine end, stock in transit, and thermal power plants, is 103 million tonnes, a 34 percent increase from last year.
The ministry emphasized that there is absolutely no shortage of coal for the power sector and is closely coordinating with all central and state generating companies. The Ministry of Railways is also ensuring adequate availability of railway rakes for all subsidiaries, which will lead to sufficient availability of coal stocks at thermal power plants.
Contrary to rumors, the ministry clarified that no power plant has been closed due to non-availability of coal. Any closures have occurred for other reasons.
The Ministries of Coal, Railways, and Power are working together to ensure the smooth and uninterrupted supply of coal to all thermal power plants. The government’s efforts aim to support the power sector and meet the energy demands of the country.
This news provides assurance to the power industry and addresses concerns regarding coal availability. The steady supply of coal will help maintain the operation of thermal power plants and fulfill the electricity requirements of the nation.
