Indianapolis Man Arrested in Fatal Hit-and-Run: Suspect Flees Scene After Striking Pedestrian
An 18-year-old man from Indianapolis has been arrested by Lawrence Police Department officers in connection with a hit-and-run accident that tragically resulted in the death of a pedestrian. The suspect, Hector Cuautle-Sanchez, was apprehended after authorities thoroughly reviewed video footage and license-plate radar data from the area of the incident.
The accident occurred on November 5 at approximately 11:15 p.m. According to Deputy Chief Gary Woodruff of the Lawrence Police Department, the pedestrian was crossing the street at the 4400 block of North Franklin Road. At that moment, a southbound vehicle struck the pedestrian at Records Street. Shockingly, rather than stopping, the driver of the vehicle chose to flee the scene, continuing south on Franklin Road.
Following his arrest, Cuautle-Sanchez admitted to detectives that he had seen the pedestrian, identified as 30-year-old Jasmine Singleton, too late to avoid the collision. In a state of panic, he made the ill-advised decision to leave the scene of the crash.
Cuautle-Sanchez has been preliminarily charged with leaving the scene of a crash resulting in a fatality, which is classified as a Level 4 felony. The final decision regarding the charges will be made by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.
Jasmine Singleton, who was critically injured in the hit-and-run, was immediately transported to Eskenazi Hospital by EMS. Sadly, she was pronounced dead at the hospital. This senseless tragedy has left a family in mourning and a community in shock.
As more details emerge regarding the hit-and-run incident and the legal proceedings move forward, we hope for justice to prevail and for Jasmine Singleton’s family to find solace in the midst of their grief. It serves as a stark reminder of the need for compassion and caution on our roads, as well as the importance of valuing human life above all else.
