NEW DELHI: India women’s head coach Amol Muzumdar hailed the team’s Test victories over England and Australia as the highest point of the season. Despite struggling in white-ball matches, where they lost seven out of nine games, the Indian team performed exceptionally well in the longer format, securing convincing wins against both opponents.
Regarding captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s form, Muzumdar disagreed with the notion of her being out of form, despite a run of six consecutive single-digit scores. However, he identified fitness, decision-making, and the team’s handling of DRS calls as areas of concern.
While reflecting on the demanding season that saw India face England and Australia in multiple formats, Muzumdar emphasized the need for the team to work on its fitness and fielding, which were exposed during the white-ball matches. He also highlighted the importance of improving decision-making skills and DRS implementation.
Muzumdar praised the squad’s efforts in managing 11 matches across formats in just 35 days and credited their hard work and dedication throughout the season. He expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance and commended their ability to cope with a challenging schedule.
Addressing concerns about injuries and health issues, Muzumdar emphasized the importance of constant monitoring of player fitness. He revealed that the team closely monitored all players, including substitutes who were not playing, every alternate day.
Disputing claims of Harmanpreet Kaur’s poor form, Muzumdar pointed out her impressive performances in the Test format, including a knock of 49 and an unbeaten 44. He expressed confidence in her abilities and predicted that fans would witness more exceptional performances from her in the future.
In summary, despite disappointing results in white-ball matches, India’s women’s team achieved remarkable success in Test cricket against England and Australia. While acknowledging areas for improvement such as fitness, fielding, decision-making, and DRS implementation, head coach Amol Muzumdar praised the team’s resilience and positive response during the demanding season.
