Two passenger trains collided in the eastern Indian state of Odisha on Friday, resulting in at least 288 deaths and 803 others injured. The collision occurred near Bahanaga Bazar station in Balasore district. The accident is one of the worst train crashes in India and the death toll is likely to rise further since some of the injured passengers are in critical condition. The cause of the accident is not yet known, but a probe has been ordered into the derailment. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting in New Delhi on the train crash Saturday morning and later travelled to Balasore to meet the injured passengers, saying those responsible will be severely punished.
