## Indian Teacher Under Fire for Encouraging Students to Slap Muslim Classmate
A schoolteacher from Uttar Pradesh in India has found herself at the center of a controversy after a video went viral showing her instructing students to slap their Muslim classmate. The incident has sparked outrage and raised concerns about discipline and religious bias in schools.
The teacher, Tripta Tyagi, defended her actions, stating that she intended to discipline the child. She remained unapologetic and claimed that the community supports her. Tyagi argued that she asked other students to discipline the boy due to her physical limitations and the child’s failure to learn a lesson for several months. She even cited the endorsement of the child’s uncle to justify her decision.
In the video clip, which circulated widely on social media, students can be seen taking turns slapping their classmate as the teacher encourages them to exert more force. She specifically instructs a student to target the boy’s waist after he had already been slapped. The teacher’s discriminatory remarks, captured on video, further fueled the controversy.
The young boy, who was subjected to the slapping, revealed that the punishment was meted out for his failure to learn multiplication tables. He stated that he was disciplined for his mistake and that the slapping continued for an hour.
Following the video’s viral dissemination, a First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against Tripta Tyagi, invoking relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Satyanarayan Prajapat, Superintendent of Mansurpur Police, confirmed that an investigation into the incident has been launched and appropriate administrative action will be taken against the teacher.
The incident has sparked outrage among the public, with many condemning the teacher’s behavior. Schools should be safe spaces for learning and nurturing, and incidents like this raise questions about the effectiveness of disciplinary measures and the need for greater sensitization within the education system.
To address these concerns, it is crucial for the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and take appropriate action against Tripta Tyagi. This incident should serve as a reminder to educators and school administrators about the importance of promoting a respectful and inclusive environment for all students, irrespective of their background.
Violence and discriminatory behavior have no place in our educational institutions. It is essential for teachers to focus on imparting knowledge, shaping character, and fostering understanding among students. The incident in Uttar Pradesh reminds us of the need for continuous efforts to create an atmosphere of tolerance, acceptance, and learning in schools across the country.
