UK: Indian student, who went missing after night out with friends, found dead
London: The body of a 23-year-old Indian student, Gurashman Singh Bhatia, who had been missing since December 14, has been discovered. Police divers found his body in a lake in Canary Wharf, east London. The Metropolitan Police in the UK are appealing for information to piece together the last movements of Gurashman.
Extensive investigations are being conducted by the officers, including reviewing CCTV footage, speaking to witnesses, and analyzing phone and financial data. Water searches were also carried out in the area, resulting in the recovery of a body believed to be that of Bhatia by police divers in South Quay.
Detective Chief Superintendent James Conway, responsible for local policing in the Tower Hamlets area of Canary Wharf, stated that Gurashman’s death is being treated as unexpected. While there is currently no indication of suspicious circumstances, the investigation will be conducted meticulously to confirm this.
We are releasing a CCTV image of Gurashman that was taken before his disappearance and would like anyone who may have seen him in the Marsh Wall area on the evening of Thursday, December 14, and in the early hours of Friday, December 15, to contact us, Conway added.
The police expressed their condolences to Gurashman’s family and friends. Although formal identification is yet to take place, the family has been informed.
The news of Gurashman’s disappearance prompted widespread social media appeals by the Indian student community in the UK.

Gurashman was pursuing an MSc in Digital Finance at Loughborough University. His case was raised with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar by BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa.
