Indian Shooter Kamaljeet emerged victorious in the 50m Pistol category at the ISSF Junior World Championship held in Changwon, Korea. The 19-year-old athlete not only won the individual event but also led his team to clinch the gold medal in the team event on the final day of the championship.
India finished in second place overall, securing a total of 17 medals, including six gold, six silver, and five bronze. They were narrowly beaten by China, who bagged 28 medals, including 12 gold.
In the highly competitive individual event, Kamaljeet showcased exceptional shooting skills by scoring an impressive 544 out of a possible 600 points. This remarkable performance secured his position as the gold medalist. Uzbekistan’s Veniamin Nikitin secured the second position with a score of 542, while Kim Taemin from Korea took home the bronze with 541 points.
Kamaljeet’s success extended to the team event as well, where he formed a formidable trio with Ankait Tomar and Sandeep Bishnoi. Together, they amassed a total score of 1617, claiming the team gold medal. Uzbekistan finished in second place with a score of 1613, followed by Korea in third place with 1600 points.
In the women’s 50m Pistol event, Tiyana secured the silver medal with a score of 519, narrowly missing out on the top spot by just one point. Khanna Aliyeva from an undisclosed country claimed the gold medal with an impressive score of 520.
With the conclusion of the ISSF Junior World Championship, attention now turns to the upcoming senior world championships, scheduled to take place in Baku, Azerbaijan from August 14 onward.
These achievements by Kamaljeet and his fellow Indian athletes not only highlight their exceptional talent but also demonstrate the nation’s strength in the sport of shooting.
