Indian surfers are gearing up for the fourth edition of the Indian Open of Surfing, which will take place from June 1-3 at Panambur Beach in Mangaluru. Surfers including Sanjaikumar S, Nithishvarun T, Surya P, Ruban D, Srikanth D, Sathish Sarvanan, and Manikandan Desappan will be vying for top honours. The event, which is being hosted by the Mantra Surfing Club in Mangaluru, will also serve as a qualifying event for the Paris 2024 Olympics, with Indian surfers hoping to make it to the Indian team for other international events. The Surfing Federation of India is the governing body for the sport in India and has received support from various corporates.
Indian companies are also extending their support to the sport, which has the potential to invigorate tourism and generate employment opportunities. Companies including the NR Group and Jai Hind Group have committed to the Indian Open of Surfing and the Karnataka Surfing Festival, with a focus on environmental conservation and infrastructure development in coastal areas. It is hoped that support for the sport will continue to grow, encouraging the development of local businesses and economic growth in coastal regions.
