Indian Myeloma Congress 2024: Experts Convene to Discuss Extending Survival in Incurable Blood Cancer

Pune: The Indian Myeloma Academic Groupe (IMAGe) is all set to host its 6th Annual Meeting, the Indian Myeloma Congress – 2024, from January 12th to 14th, 2023, at Symbiosis Medical College for Women in Lavale, Pune. This three-day event aims to bring together patients, caregivers, residents/fellows, and treating physicians to strengthen research and promote awareness about plasma cell disorders in the Indian subcontinent. The conference will feature renowned national and international experts in myeloma, who will share their knowledge and insights on various aspects of this incurable blood cancer. With a focus on extending survival, the meeting will delve into diagnostics, therapeutics, research, and future perspectives related to multiple myeloma.

Dr. Y Uday, Secretary of IMAGe, shed light on the group’s activities, including patient care, educational initiatives, and research endeavors. During the conference inauguration, Dr. Uday announced the Dr. Tapan Saikia Traveling Fellowship Award and the Dr. Reena Nair Educational Grant, aimed at supporting students in the field. The event also witnessed the release of the Amyloidosis and Waldenstrom Chapters, contributing to the advancement of research in rare disorders lacking adequate diagnostics and therapeutic facilities in India.

The gathering at Symbiosis Medical College for Women attracted leading experts from around the world. Notable attendees included Dr. Nikhil Munshi from Harvard Medical School and Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Dr. Vincent Rajkumar, Dr. Priya Sampathkumar, and Dr. Prashant Kapoor from Mayo Clinic in the US, Dr. Amit Khot and Dr. Dipti Talaulikar from Australia, and Dr. Chandramouli from Singapore. A total of 186 faculty and delegates from major institutes across India participated, showcasing 104 research works from various parts of the country.

The conference program features a diverse range of activities, such as workshops, panel discussions, CME talks, debates, and presentations on research work. Of particular interest is the Annual Quiz on plasma cell disorders, which aims to promote academic excellence and offers participants the chance to win up to one lakh in prize money. Additionally, students and researchers from across India will present their work through poster and oral presentations. The best research projects will be awarded sponsorship for International Observership programs, enabling further research opportunities.

By addressing the specific plasma cell dyscrasias prevalent in the Indian population, the 6th Indian Myeloma Congress provides a valuable opportunity for experts and newcomers in the field to enhance their knowledge and network with their peers.
