A 29-year-old man from Kerala, India, has accomplished his lifelong dream of performing the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca by walking roughly 8,650 kilometers over a period of 382 days. Shihab Chottur began his journey on foot in June 2022, passing through Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, and Kuwait before arriving at his destination in June 2023. Despite harsh weather conditions and confrontations with predators in Iran, Chottur remained resolved in his mission to reach Mecca. He carried provisions such as food, water, clothing, and wood to keep warm during the night. On arriving in Saudi Arabia, Chottur spent 21 days in Medina before heading to Mecca to complete his Hajj journey. He typically walked between 25-60 kilometers per day while in Saudi Arabia. Chottur hopes that his journey serves as an inspiration to others, showing that any challenge can be overcome with a good intention to achieve one’s goals.
