Indian IT Leaders Confident in AI Readiness of Digital Infrastructure, Equinix Survey Finds

Indian IT leaders are the most confident about the readiness of their technology infrastructure to embrace artificial intelligence (AI), according to a recent survey conducted by digital infrastructure company Equinix. The survey revealed that over 80% of IT leaders in India believe that their existing technological infrastructure is adequately prepared to meet the demands of AI. This figure is significantly higher than that of the Asia-Pacific region, where only 56% of IT leaders expressed confidence in their infrastructure’s readiness for AI.

Equinix surveyed IT leaders across the Asia-Pacific region to assess their organizations’ preparedness for AI. The timing of the survey coincides with the increasing integration of generative AI into enterprise processes and applications.

Manoj Paul, the Managing Director of Equinix India, stated that AI, particularly generative AI, has made significant progress and its adoption in India is growing rapidly. He emphasized that embracing AI is key to resilience, gaining a competitive advantage, and achieving sustainable growth in a dynamic digital landscape.

The survey also revealed that AI adoption is on the rise across various industry sectors. More than 90% of IT leaders stated that their organizations expect to benefit from AI and are either already using it or planning to do so across different functions. The areas where AI is most likely to be implemented or planned for include IT operations (93%), e-commerce (93%), and customer experience (92%).

However, the survey also identified several obstacles to the widespread adoption of AI solutions in India. The top concerns cited by IT leaders included an increase in operating expenditure costs (46%), a lack of internal knowledge (42%), slow implementation (37%), and a potential negative impact on reputation (25%).

Additionally, the survey examined the most popular applications for digital twin technology, which involves creating a digital representation of real-world products, processes, or systems for simulations. Quality control and management emerged as the most popular area for digital twin implementation among Indian IT decision-makers (73%). Other areas included operational performance optimization (63%), product development and redesign (56%), predictive maintenance (54%), systems planning (51%), and logistics planning (47%).

The survey highlighted the need for education and collaboration to enable IT teams to optimize their infrastructure effectively. For organizations looking to expand their IT teams, expertise in AI and machine learning was identified as the most sought-after skill (56%).

In conclusion, Indian IT leaders are confident in the AI readiness of their digital infrastructure, surpassing their counterparts in the Asia-Pacific region. The survey underscores the growing importance of AI adoption across various industries and the need for addressing barriers to its widespread implementation. By embracing AI and optimizing their technological infrastructure, organizations can harness the power of AI for resilience, competitive advantage, and sustainable growth in the digital era.
