The Indian economy is seeing a positive surge in employment and manufacturing despite geopolitical tensions, according to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Speaking at a virtual ‘Rozgar Mela’ event where more than 70,000 appointment letters were distributed to new government recruits, Modi lauded the success of government schemes like Startup India, Stand up India and Mudra Yojana. The initiatives have reportedly led to a spurt in employment opportunities within both the public and private sectors. Modi also noted the success of Indian youth in creating start-ups that not only contribute to self-employment but also generate employment opportunities for others. However, India’s unemployment rate increased in April 2023, with figures from the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) suggesting a rise for the fourth consecutive month. Despite this, Modi remains optimistic about the Indian economy and believes the world sees India as a politically stable and decisive nation.
