The Indian Coast Guard recently evacuated 50 individuals from the Key Singapore oil rig located off the coast of Gujarat due to the approaching cyclonic storm Biparjoy. The oil rig is 40 kilometers away from Dwarka, and the evacuation was done in seven sorties through an overnight operation using the Ship Shoor and Advanced Light Helicopter Mark III helicopter. The mission was successful, and all crew members were evacuated safely.
The India Meteorological Department warned of the cyclonic storm, and an Orange Alert was issued for Saurashtra and Kutch coasts in Gujarat. Cyclone Biparjoy is scheduled to cross the Jakhau Port by the evening of June 15, and the area is expected to experience rough sea conditions and inclement weather.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a telephonic conversation with Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Monday to receive updates on the status of Cyclone Biparjoy and the system’s preparedness in Gujarat. PM Modi also chaired a high-level meeting on the same day to review the preparedness of agencies and ministries both in the Centre and Gujarat to deal with the situation.
The Indian Coast Guard continues to monitor the cyclonic storm and urges everyone to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
