The Indian Army commemorated the 24th Kargil Vijay Diwas by flagging off a Motorcycle Expedition from Kohima to Kargil. This unique initiative aims to mark the celebrations of the historic event and honor the bravery of the soldiers who fought in the Kargil War. The expedition, led by the valiant Mashkoh Warriors, will cover a distance of over 3,700 kilometers, passing through eight states and two union territories.
The Motorcycle Expedition was flagged off by Lieutenant General RP Kalita, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, GOC-in-C, Eastern Command, and Colonel of the Kumaon, Naga Regiments, and Kumaon Scouts in Kohima. The journey will culminate on Kargil Vijay Diwas, which falls on July 26, 2023, at the Kargil War Memorial.
Speaking at the flagging-off ceremony, Lieutenant General Kalita stated that the expedition is being conducted to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Operation Vijay. This operation witnessed the courageous efforts of the Naga warriors who shed their blood to protect the territorial integrity of our motherland.
The Motorcycle Expedition holds great significance, as it not only pays tribute to the fallen heroes of the Kargil War but also symbolizes the unity and resilience of the Indian Army. The team will collect soil from the villages of the fallen heroes along the entire route and carry it as a tribute to the Kargil War Memorial in Dras.
